Protecting Florida's Coast
Protecting Florida’s Coast is an evening of documentary films and discussion about the latest plans for offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico and the threat to Florida’s coast and beaches. The four short films highlight grassroots movements around drilling, impacts from the 2010 BP oil disaster and the revolution in clean energy.
Following the films, local environmental advocates from Surfrider Emerald Coast, 350 Pensacola and Healthy Gulf will lead a discussion about how citizens can get engaged around the latest Federal plans for drilling in the Gulf. An event page with more information is available on the Healthy Gulf Facebook page here.

Child Abuse Symposium
Please join us for this important community symposium series about Child Abuse hosted by area United Methodist Churches in partnership with Gulf Coast Kid's House and Santa Rosa Kid's House.
Did you know that the number of kids (0-18) that are registered as official victims of child abuse (emotional, physical, sexual) in the Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties alone could fill the Bay Center with a child in each seat? That's a major public health and spiritual problem and we can do something with education and shining a light on this sinful behavior in our communities.
The Symposium will feature different community agencies (as organized by GCKH and SRKH) presenting current trending information regarding the awareness, prevention, detection, and recovery of child abuse in our area featuring panelist-style education and Q+A. Each week is different topics and different panelists so will have fresh content.
Blithe Spirit
The University of West Florida Department of Theatre presents “Blithe Spirit” by Noël Coward. Performances will be held October 21-23 and October 28-30 with shows at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 2:30 p.m. on Sunday. All performances will take place in the Mainstage Theatre of the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, on the Pensacola Campus.
Noël Coward’s comedy “Blithe Spirit” revolves around socialite and novelist Charles Condomine who hopes to find material for his next book by holding a séance. However, he quickly learns that the marriage vow “Til death do us part” does not mean exactly what he thinks when the eccentric Medium, Madame Arcati conjures up the ghost of his temperamental first wife, Elvira. Despite him being happily married to his second wife Ruth, Elvira refuses to let Charles go. Can Madame Arcati solve the problem that has now been created or will she continue to only make it worse?
Director Kayla May leads the creative team consisting of Brittney Barton, scenic designer; Becca Hall, costume designer; and Charles Houghton lighting designer.
Kayla May is an alum of the UWF Theatre program. Onstage at UWF, she was seen as Fanny in "On the Verge", Christmas Past in "A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas" and Violet in "The Mystery of Edwin Drood". Since graduating she has worked professionally as the Camps Director for the summer seasons at the New London Barn Playhouse 2016-2022, and is Founder, Owner and Director of Neighborhood Children's Theatre here in Pensacola. Her professional acting credits include: Annelle in "Steel Magnolias" at Emerald Coast Theatre Company (upcoming), Grace Banker in "The Hello Girls" (PenArts), Nurse/Ensemble in “The Secret Garden” at the New London Barn Playhouse (New London, NH).
General admission ticket prices are $20 per person for adults, $16 per person for senior citizens and active military, $14 per person for non-UWF students and UWF faculty and staff, and $7 for high school students. UWF students are admitted free with their Nautilus cards. Tickets can be purchased at the CFPA Box Office, Building 82, 850.857.6285 or online at uwf.edu/tickets.

What the Inflation Reduction Act means for the Gulf Coast
The Inflation Reduction Act was just passed by the U.S. Congress, representing the nation’s largest-ever investment in confronting climate change. Join us as we learn more about the Act and how it will impact Gulf coast communities, from the municipal to the individual level.
While the Act contains some provisions that could expand the use of fossil fuels, it also heavily incentivizes clean renewable energy that could help residents, businesses and local governments install solar panels, access electric vehicle charging stations and make homes and buildings more energy-efficient.
Our presenters are four NW Florida residents who work on issues of climate change, energy and the environment:
Mark Jackson, City of Pensacola
Larry Chamblin, 350 Pensacola
Paige Plier, international sustainability consultant
Christian Wagley, Healthy Gulf
Celebrate the Gulf
Join-in for some hands-on education about local beaches and waterways with the nonprofit organization Healthy Gulf. We’ll be setup outdoors with displays of popular shells and other items that wash ashore on local beaches, as well as some live fish and other marine life from Santa Rosa Sound. A portion of proceeds from restaurant sales at Red Fish Blue Fish will be donated to Healthy Gulf to support our work in Florida and around the Gulf to protect beaches, waterways, marine life, and communities.
