Bubbles, Brews, & Bites
Bubbles, Brews, and Bites, our annual fundraiser returns October 16. Sample creations by local chefs that highlight the science of color, the theme of the event this year.
In addition to chefs from local restaurants, we are also excited to have PSC and Escambia High School Culinary Academy students showcasing their work. Cooking is a science, and these students' creations will inspire your curiosity (and taste buds).
We will also share some of our intriguing hands-on activities that will get you thinking about color in a whole new way.
This event isn't just a fundraiser - it is a learning opportunity!
The Rolfs Music Hall Artist Series featuring Steve Williams
The University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the Rolfs Music Hall Artist Series at UWF featuring guest performer alto saxophonist Steve Williams. The performance will be held on Monday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rolfs Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the UWF Pensacola campus.
With over 35 years of experience, Steve Williams, the son of Dr. Grier Williams, for whom the University of West Florida School of Music is named, has performed a diverse range of music styles across the United States. Beginning his career at the University of North Texas, where he received his bachelor's degree, Williams was a member of the famed jazz ensemble the One O'Clock Band. From there, Williams went on to join the United States Navy Band Commodores, the Navy's premier jazz ensemble, in 1994, eventually assuming the role of lead saxophonist and musical director of the ensemble.
Following his time with The Commodores, Williams joined the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra in 2014 as its lead alto saxophonist. In addition, Williams has explored many creative projects, appearing on multiple albums, including the Latin Grammy-winning “Caribbean Jazz Project/Afro Bop Alliance Big Band featuring Dave Samuels,” and has released his own big band Jazz album, “Steve Williams and Jazz Nation.”

Kid's Slow Ride and Bike Safety Rodeo
Join Bike Pensacola for the most popular bike ride in town--the Slow Ride! Each month we explore the quiet, scenic streets of Pensacola's many historic neighborhoods for a fun and leisurely ride among friends.
For October we are joining with The Last Mile to host a Kids' Slow Ride followed by a Bike Safety Rodeo. Kids will ride (and parents can join them) a little less than a mile to a nearby East Hill park and back, escorted by motorcycle officers of the Pensacola Police Department. Free snacks will be provided for kids following the Ride. No registration is required and the Kids’ Slow Ride is free.
After the Ride the Bike Safety Rodeo will take kids through a ride course setup in the Square to teach safe riding skills. The adult Slow Ride will also roll from Malaga Square at 12 noon. More information is available at https://www.bikepensacola.org/ or on Bike Pensacola’s Facebook page.
Because most cyclists are “self taught,” each month we offer information about bicycle laws, safety tips, and addressing different bicycling skills that will help keep rides safe and enjoyable. The ride will be about one hour and ten minutes long, at a casual pace. Nobody will be “dropped” or left behind. Children must be at least 10 years of age to ride their own bicycle, and ages 10 - 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No pets are allowed on the Rides. Cyclists under 16 must wear a helmet by law; ages 16 and up helmets are recommended but are not required by law. We will enjoy a ride escort by officers of the Pensacola Police Department.
For much more information about the Slow Ride please visit Bike Pensacola on Facebook or call 850-687-9968 or bike@pensacolacan.org
Strategies for Coastal Resilience: Building a Stronger Northwest Florida
Join us for a discussion on strategic initiatives to address vulnerabilities of coastal cities to extreme weather events and flooding. Our distinguished guests are Carrie Stevenson, Coastal Sustainability Agent for the University of Florida Extension in Escambia, and Dr. Haris Alibašić, Associate Professor in the graduate program in Public Administration at the University of West Florida. Both have extensive experience in community resilience planning.
This discussion will explore Florida's investments in coastal resilience, including the state's Resilient Florida Program, representing over $1 billion in state funding to prepare communities for flooding and extreme weather events. The program provides grants to local governments for vulnerability assessments and implementation projects. Florida's comprehensive Statewide Flood Vulnerability Assessment identifies critical infrastructure and communities most at risk, enabling data-driven resilience strategies.
For more information on this event, please visit the 350 Pensacola Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1795569951102115?active_tab=about
350 Pensacola and Healthy Gulf are cohosts for this event, both nonprofit organizations working on environmental and resilience issues along the Gulf coast.
