  • Join us for a discussion on strategic initiatives to address vulnerabilities of coastal cities to extreme weather events and flooding. Our distinguished guests are Carrie Stevenson, Coastal Sustainability Agent for the University of Florida Extension in Escambia, and Dr. Haris Alibašić, Associate Professor in the graduate program in Public Administration at the University of West Florida. Both have extensive experience in community resilience planning.

This discussion will explore Florida's investments in coastal resilience, including the state's Resilient Florida Program, representing over $1 billion in state funding to prepare communities for flooding and extreme weather events. The program provides grants to local governments for vulnerability assessments and implementation projects. Florida's comprehensive Statewide Flood Vulnerability Assessment identifies critical infrastructure and communities most at risk, enabling data-driven resilience strategies.

  • Join Bike Pensacola for the most popular bike ride in town--the Slow Ride! Each month we explore the quiet, scenic streets of Pensacola's many historic neighborhoods for a fun and leisurely ride among friends.

For October we are joining with The Last Mile to host a Kids' Slow Ride followed by a Bike Safety Rodeo. Kids will ride (and parents can join them) a little less than a mile to a nearby East Hill park and back, escorted by motorcycle officers of the Pensacola Police Department. Free snacks will be provided for kids following the Ride. No registration is required and the Kids’ Slow Ride is free.

After the Ride the Bike Safety Rodeo will take kids through a ride course setup in the Square to teach safe riding skills. The adult Slow Ride will also roll from Malaga Square at 12 noon. More information is available at https://www.bikepensacola.org/ or on Bike Pensacola’s Facebook page.

Because most cyclists are “self taught,” each month we offer information about bicycle laws, safety tips, and addressing different bicycling skills that will help keep rides safe and enjoyable. The ride will be about one hour and ten minutes long, at a casual pace. Nobody will be “dropped” or left behind. Children must be at least 10 years of age to ride their own bicycle, and ages 10 - 16 must be accompanied by an adult. No pets are allowed on the Rides. Cyclists under 16 must wear a helmet by law; ages 16 and up helmets are recommended but are not required by law. We will enjoy a ride escort by officers of the Pensacola Police Department.

For much more information about the Slow Ride please visit Bike Pensacola on Facebook or call 850-687-9968 or bike@pensacolacan.org

  • Tickets are now available for Hauntcert: A Family-Friendly Halloween Concert, presented by the Pensacola Children’s Chorus (PCC). Reserve your seats for PCC’s first concert of the season, held at the Jane C. Noonan Center on the campus of First Presbyterian Church of Pensacola on October 27 and 28.

Prepare to be spellbound as the exceptionally talented members of PCC’s advanced choirs present an evening of Halloween-themed musical fun and imagination. Trick-or-treat and have a ball with witches, cats, pirates, princesses, superheroes and friendly vampires! Let your imagination run wild and become whatever you want to be in our Halloween costume shop.

Gather 'round the campfire for some not-so-scary stories told through song, and join in an exciting, interactive musical adventure where children will use their voices to bring an imaginary haunted house to life—and even help catch a pesky ghost! Then, get ready to move as kids and families join our singers on stage for a lively costume conga line. The night also features reimagined versions of your favorite 90s pop tunes, all with a spooky seasonal twist.

Hauntcert has a run time of approximately 40 minutes and will feature additional activities designed with families in mind. Beginning at 5:30 p.m., children are invited to go trick-or-treating in the concert venue at stations hosted by PCC’s community partners. There will also be time for a photo meet-and-greet with your favorite featured performers.

All audience members are encouraged to dress up in a fun and family-friendly fashion, though participants should refrain from using masks or prop weaponry. During a special part of the concert, children will have the chance to showcase their costumes from the stage and participate in the music-making magic alongside PCC’s singers.
  • "In the final days of the 2025 session, Florida lawmakers quietly passed Senate Bill 180 — a bill described as hurricane relief but packed with sweeping restrictions on local planning. It freezes local governments’ ability to adopt stronger land-use and development rules for years, even if those rules have nothing to do with storm recovery. Communities are already seeing long-planned growth protections overturned. SB 180 strips local governments of their ability to protect residents, manage flooding, and guide growth — and it must be fixed in 2026."

Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 6:00 PM CT / 7:00 PM ET. Join us as we welcome Guest Speaker Kim Dinkins, Policy and Planning Director, 1000 Friends of Florida, who will provide a general overview of SB180 and the implications it has for our communities, followed by what we can expect to see in the 2026 legislative session with regards to the bill - i.e., amendments to the original language, etc.

  • In their first concert of the season, the UWF Runge Strings will perform Vivaldi's "Summer" from Le Quattro Stagioni (The Four Seasons) featuring Dr. Leonid Yanovskiy as the violin soloist, joined by Dr. Hedi Salanki on the harpsichord. The program will also include Max Reger's “Lyrisches Andante”, Mozart's “Divertimento in D major, K. 136”, “Two Elegiac Melodies” by Grieg and Mendelssohn's “E Minor Symphony”.
  • Exploring facets of everyday mental health, the UWF Singers and Concert Choir will present an eclectic collection of poetry and music of historical figures, culminating in the presentation of Broadway composer Aron Accurso's multimovement work, “You Are Enough: A Mental Health Suite.” Through music and artistic representation, the Singers illustrate the damaging effects of self-hate speech and the importance of positive internal narratives.

This concert has been made possible through cooperative efforts with the UWF Department of Social Work, UWF Psi-Chi Chapter, UWF Counseling and Psychological Services, UWF Athletics and Uru Yoga
