  • Bubbles, Brews, and Bites, our annual fundraiser returns October 16. Sample creations by local chefs that highlight the science of color, the theme of the event this year.

In addition to chefs from local restaurants, we are also excited to have PSC and Escambia High School Culinary Academy students showcasing their work. Cooking is a science, and these students' creations will inspire your curiosity (and taste buds).

We will also share some of our intriguing hands-on activities that will get you thinking about color in a whole new way.

This event isn't just a fundraiser - it is a learning opportunity!

The performance will be held on Monday, Oct. 20, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rolfs Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the UWF Pensacola campus.

With over 35 years of experience, Steve Williams, the son of Dr. Grier Williams, for whom the University of West Florida School of Music is named, has performed a diverse range of music styles across the United States. Beginning his career at the University of North Texas, where he received his bachelor's degree, Williams was a member of the famed jazz ensemble the One O'Clock Band. From there, Williams went on to join the United States Navy Band Commodores, the Navy's premier jazz ensemble, in 1994, eventually assuming the role of lead saxophonist and musical director of the ensemble.

Following his time with The Commodores, Williams joined the Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra in 2014 as its lead alto saxophonist. In addition, Williams has explored many creative projects, appearing on multiple albums, including the Latin Grammy-winning “Caribbean Jazz Project/Afro Bop Alliance Big Band featuring Dave Samuels,” and has released his own big band Jazz album, “Steve Williams and Jazz Nation.”
  • The University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the Kamerman Piano Series at UWF featuring guest performer Matthew Graybil. The performance will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. in the Rolfs Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the UWF Pensacola campus.

Renowned as an “exceptional young artist” by the New Yorker and as a “major talent” by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune since making his orchestral debut at age 14, Matthew Graybil has gained an international reputation as a talented piano recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. Graybil’s solo career features performances in major music capitals of the world including Mexico City, New York, Paris and Toronto, in venues such as Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall, Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center, the Lincoln Center and more. Having studied music since age 6, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School, Graybil’s career highlights works from the 20th and 21st centuries, reflected in his first solo album in which he “becomes so at one with the music that the line between performer and composer vanishes” marking him as “one of the most sensitive, poetic young pianists to debut on record in recent memory,” according to Fanfare Magazine.
