Planetarium Special Feature: Slavic Mythology
Join us for this special planetarium where we'll explore Eastern European folklore and legends behind the stars. The people of Slavic Europe viewed the stars and planets as magical, living creatures that were born glimmering. They named these celestial bodies after characters from their mythology and folklore.
During this special, family-friendly planetarium show, you’ll learn stories from many Slavic countries, including Poland, Russia, Belarus, Macedonia, Serbia, and the Ukraine. You’ll see a dazzling display of Slavic constellations and learn about the brave czars and clever princesses who outsmarted dangerous monsters and villains. You’ll also learn a few tricks on how to escape from the infamous witch, Baba Yaga.
Our Planetarium is an inflatable dome. Guests sit on cushions on the floor of the planetarium to view the show. Space is limited, and purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended for this reason. On Planetarium Nights, please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled showing. In case of no-shows/late shows: reserved spots will be released at show time to make space for the next party.
Shows begin at 6 and 7 pm and last approximately 45 minutes. Seating is limited and very popular. We encourage purchasing your tickets in advance, as this is a first come, first served event. Please call 850-664-1261, stop by the Science Center, or use our online ticketing option to purchase your tickets.
Our planetarium is sponsored by Gulf Power
Planetarium Special Feature: Stars & Stories of Africa
Celebrate Black History Month with a special planetarium event! We'll travel the cosmos to learn more about the ancient Kush people, exactly what the Kenyan Borana Star Calendar was, and identify the Swahili names for the planets. You'll get to hear African folklore stories and even discover how enslaved African Americans were able to follow the stars to freedom in the north.
Shows begin at 6 and 7 p.m. All shows last approximately 45 minutes. Our Planetarium is an inflatable dome. Guests sit on cushions on the floor of the planetarium to view the show. Space is limited, so purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended for this reason. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled showing. Wine & Song
Presented by the Choral Society and Aragon Wine Market + Wine Bar, this tasting event features wines from six countries perfectly paired with a dozen choral selections. You'll sample the wines, introduced by AWM's guru de vin, Pepper Dowdy, and share a charcuterie board seated at tables of eight. As you sip and snack, you'll be serenaded by the Society’s 100-voice chorus in a program including works by such composers as Schubert, Brahms, Offenbach, Kodály, and Piazzolla, as well as arrangements of traditional songs. Artistic Director Peter Steenblik will conduct.
"Wine & Song" is for adults 21 and older. A zero proof (non-alcoholic) option will be available. Seating is limited, and ticket sales will end at 11:59 pm, Sunday, October 6. If you have concerns about accessibility or any other questions, please email support@choralsocietyofpensacola.org.
