Serving as an advocate for new music, Smit has premiered various solo works on his recital programs, commissioned by Stephen Hough, Miquel Oliu and Katherine Balch. Leaving his home in Geneva at age 9, Smit joined the Escolania de Montserrat choir school, where his daily immersion in music greatly influenced him.
