By age nine, she was doing voiceovers and auditioning for Broadway while receiving classical training. At 14, she began composing her own music. Touring with pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto opened her to new sounds and refined her craft, as she learned from talented musicians and pushed herself to excel as a performer.
