Women's History Event: Our Struggle for Reproductive Rights
Women's History Event: Our Struggle for Reproductive Rights
In 1983, the nationwide anti-abortion protest movement began in Pensacola, driven by extremists who believe that violence is justified to stop abortions. Far from being defined by the anti-abortion movement, however, the city all along has been a site of struggle by supporters of bodily autonomy, reproductive rights, and women's rights. The struggle continues today against unrelenting efforts to restrict and criminalize access to abortions, contraceptives, and reproductive health care. This event will explore lessons from Pensacola's past and local efforts to reclaim a better future. The event includes a panel discussion and a short film on Pensacola's abortion rights history. The event is free and open to the public.
