Offshore drilling in the Gulf of Mexico is a direct threat to Florida’s beaches. Yet the state remains vulnerable as a long-standing Congressional moratorium on drilling in the eastern Gulf near Florida expires in just eight months. Join us as we learn about efforts underway to create a permanent drilling moratorium, and hear from local and national voices advocating for protection for Florida’s beaches and coast.

Florida U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor will join the event live via video link to detail legislation she introduced to create a permanent moratorium on drilling in the eastern Gulf, and how residents can help to push for its passage. Local beach residents, business owners and environmental advocates will be there to add their support for a permanent moratorium and speak about how local residents can get engaged in the effort.
