Listen...can you hear that? It’s the sound of the Earth! Global Soundscapes takes you on a sound safari to explore the health of our planet...with your ears. Travel the globe with scientists to investigate the spectacular soundscapes of Costa Rica’s rainforests, Hawaii’s coral reefs, and Mongolia’s vast grasslands. Learn how animals use sounds to survive and communicate in lush, but threatened environments. Experience basic acoustics through interactive activities and incredible slow-motion footage of pulsating musical instruments, vibrating vocal cords, and slobbering “raspberries.” With Global Soundscapes’ unique format—combining full-dome imagery, surround sound, and live presentation—you’ll hear the Earth in a whole new way.

Global Soundscapes: Mission to Record the Earth takes viewers on an ear-opening journey into the science of sound and the emerging field of soundscape ecology. Audiences will become physically involved as they journey to faraway lands and investigate the properties of sound. They will learn all about soundscapes: what they are, how scientists record them, and why they are important in learning about the biodiversity of different ecosystems.

Our Planetarium is an inflatable dome. Guests sit on cushions on the floor of the planetarium to view the show. Space is limited to 25 guests per show; reserving tickets in advance is required for this reason. On show night, please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled showing. Please call 850-664-1261, stop by the Science Center, or use our online ticketing option to reserve your tickets.

Shows begin at 5 and 6 p.m. and last approximately 45 minutes.

We will host sound and energy activities in our front classroom 30 minutes before show time! Come before your show to participate. Due to the nature of our planetarium, the rest of the museum's exhibits will not be functional during this event so outside light and sound do not interfere inside the dome.

Our planetarium is sponsored by FPL

  • FavorHouse Round-Up, Giving DV the Boot

On Friday, June 21st from 6-10pm, FavorHouse of Northwest Florida will debut their new signature fundraising event at the Escambia County Equestrian Center located at 7750 Mobile Hwy. in Pensacola, FL. The FavorHouse Round-Up is going to be a toe-tappin’, kneeslappin’ good time in support of the programs and services that help domestic violence victims in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.

The Round-Up is featuring live music from Blackwater Country, walk-about food tasting, activities such as a mechanical bull and rodeo roper, bourbon and wine pull, dancing, live auction, and more. The Executive Director of FavorHouse, Tracie Hodson, states that the FavorHouse Board of Directors are coordinating this new fundraising event and they are pulling out all the stops. “We wanted an event that our community would be excited about supporting.

The Round-Up is fitting because we all need to come together as a community to ensure that domestic violence has no place here. Our Board of Directors have many wonderful ideas on how this event can grow year after year. While this year the event is for adults over 21 years of age, we plan for it to grow into a highly anticipated annual family event,” states Hodson.

Grab Your Hat and Round-Up Your Posse, We’re Giving Domestic Violence the Boot! FavorHouse is currently seeking community sponsorships and tickets will be going on sale Friday, April 26th at the early bird price of $50. Ticket prices go up to $60 starting June 1st.

  • In many parts of the United States, for millions of Americans, access to basic healthcare is a challenge at best and an impossibility at worst. Due to geographic, economic, or cultural barriers, much of the U.S. population is uninsured or underinsured. Remote Area Medical (RAM) is stepping in to address this urgent issue by offering a free, comprehensive healthcare clinic at Pensacola Interstate Fairgrounds, located at 6655 Mobile Highway, Pensacola, FL 32526 for two days only this weekend, on Nov. 23-24. This clinic will provide dental, vision, and medical care to those who might otherwise go without these essential services.

RAM’s clinics are a lifeline for underserved communities, offering free dental cleanings, dental fillings, dental extractions, dental X-rays, eye exams, eye health exams, eyeglass prescriptions, eyeglasses made on-site, women's health exams, and general medical exams. By bringing healthcare directly to those in need, RAM removes the barriers of cost and distance that often prevent people from seeking care. The clinic in Pensacola is open to anyone in need, with no insurance and no ID required. RAM encourages anyone who could benefit from these services to attend and receive the care they deserve. The parking lot will open no later than 11:59 p.m. (Midnight) on Friday night, Nov. 23-24, and remain open for the duration of the clinic. Once in the parking lot, patients will receive additional information regarding clinic processes and next steps. Clinic doors open at 6 a.m., and services are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Sunday’s clinic operations will be an abbreviated day, so patients are advised to arrive as early as possible. Due to time constraints, patients should be prepared to choose between DENTAL and VISION services, and all patients are offered general medical care.

In some situations outside of RAM’s control, such as inclement weather, volunteer cancellations or other circumstances, the parking lot may open earlier, or a smaller-than-anticipated number of patients may be served. RAM encourages everyone who would like services, especially dental services, to arrive as early as
possible. Clinic closing time may vary based on each service area’s daily capacity. For more information on the upcoming RAM Clinic, including how to volunteer or donate, please visit ramusa.org or call 865-579-1530.
