Whether you run or walk, the public is invited to participate in the 2025 Navy Federal 5K. Join us on Saturday, April 5, as we celebrate the 15th annual Navy Federal Credit Union 5K Run/Walk/Roll in downtown Pensacola. Early registration is now open at a discounted rate of $18 for adults and $15 for youth, ages 5-13. Children 6 and under can also participate in the Sammie Sprint, a free quarter-mile race around Plaza Ferdinand.

Participation in this event benefits the Escambia County Public Schools Foundation, which funds projects and programs, including Grants for Excellence and employee appreciation programs. This event will also benefit the Santa Rosa Education Foundation. Their mission is to enhance and raise awareness of public education.

The early registration discount is available through March 23; however, registration will remain open until the start of the race. Registration is required for all participants and includes a race shirt.

The UWF College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities invites you to join us on Thursday, November 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., with a public reception at 5:30 p.m. at the Museum of Commerce in downtown Pensacola for the third installment of this year’s Gulf Coast Culture Series: Pensacola Noir, Murder, She Investigates.

Dr. Allysha Winburn, a biological anthropologist specializing in forensic and bioarchaeological research, and Dr. Cate Bird, missing persons and forensic manager for the International Committee of the Red Cross (United States and Canada), will examine the lasting cultural impact of the television series “Murder, She Wrote.”

The discussion will explore how the show shaped public fascination with forensic evidence and influenced popular understandings of crime-solving. Drawing on their own expertise, Winburn and Bird will connect the fictional world of Jessica Fletcher to the realities of forensic anthropology, investigative work, and human rights, revealing how cultural narratives intersect with science and justice.

Bring your friends, grab a drink, and get lost under the stars. Sip & Science: Lost in Space takes our usual fun antics appropriate for adults age 21 and up, and turns it into a journey through space (with wine). Join us for this fun and interactive planetarium show, including beer, wine, appetizers, and plenty of space (both socially distant and universe wise). That's right, you get to eat, drink, and relax while we take you on a tour through the galaxy, chocked full of trivia and audience participation. Sa-TURN down for what?! Join us a little early for each show to play with some of our out-of-this-world space activity stations from the NISE Network. Space is limited to 15 guests in the planetarium at a time, and masks must be worn when not eating and drinking. Shows run from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and 7:30-8:30 p.m. The planetarium will be sanitized between shows for guest safety as well. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. for the 6:00 p.m. show and 7:15 p.m. for the 7:30 show. $20 for nonmembers/$18 for members Ticket price includes admission to 1 planetarium show, access to our Space Stations, drink tickets for adult beverages (beer and wine), and food. Our Planetarium is an inflatable dome. Guests sit on cushions on the floor of the planetarium to view the show. Due to social distancing guidelines, space is limited. Purchase tickets lunar rather than later to reserve your space. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled showing to check in, grab your drinks and apps, and get settled. Join the University of Florida's Oral History and the Gulf Scholars Programs for a history harvest to share your story for the Pensacola Environmental Oral History Project! We will be recording 45 minute interviews with interested residents to learn more about experiences with pollution in Pensacola. Rally Gulf Coast, the regional branch of the Rally Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research, will host a heartfelt Candlelight Vigil on Monday, September 8, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. outside the main entrance of Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart, One Bubba Watson Drive, Pensacola, FL.

This free, community-centered gathering—held in partnership with Studer Family Children’s Hospital—will honor children affected by childhood cancer: those currently in treatment, survivors, and children who are dearly remembered. Attendees will receive candles to create a unified display of light, hope, and solidarity.

Guests are asked to park on the 4th floor of the 9th Avenue parking garage.

The Candlelight Vigil is part of Rally Gulf Coast’s observance of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, held each September to unite communities in recognition, advocacy, and hope for children and families impacted by childhood cancer. Throughout the month, Rally Gulf Coast will host additional awareness events, with the Candlelight Vigil serving as a poignant opportunity for the community to come together, reflect, and show support.
