Serena Tops Venus In U.S. Open Match, Moves Closer To Grand Slam
Williams defeated her big sister 6-2, 1-6, 6-3. It keeps alive her quest to win each of the year's major tournaments, the first time the feat would be accomplished since Steffi Graf did it in 1988.
Runge Strings Concert
The University of West Florida and the Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the Runge Strings Orchestra in concert on Thursday, October 6 at 6 p.m. The concert will be held in Holy Cross Episcopal Church, 7979 N. Ninth Ave, Pensacola.
For their first performance of the season the Runge Strings Orchestra will present a selection of Baroque and early classical music from Germany, Italy and England. The performance will close with a piece composed by American female composer, Florence Price, “Adoration for String Orchestra”. Published in 1951, “Adoration” was initially written as a short piece for organ in ABA form intended for use in church. It has proven attractive for arrangers, including Elaine Fine, who has orchestrated it for solo violin and string orchestra.
The Runge Strings will be joined on the program by the UWF String Quartet. In addition, Jose Meza, Emma Pooler, Dr. Leonid Yanovskiy, Olivia Enkey, Dr. Victoria Adamenko, Delaney Adams, and Sam Spradling will be featured as soloists.
This event is free and open to the public and no tickets are required. For more information, visit uwf.edu/cfpa or call the CFPA box office at 850.857.6285.

The COSTUME BOWL is an annual cosplay charity event to support Manna Food Pantries and Gulf Coast Kid's House. Although we had to take a brief hiatus because of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, we came back in 2021 with our most successful year yet! Now we're ready to continue our efforts to help with ALL proceeds going to Manna and GCKH.
Costumes are part of the fun but are *not required!* Our primary goal has always been to support our two great charities! Costumes DO NOT have to be sci-fi or fantasy-related, but they DO need to be family-friendly!
Bowlers can organize a team of up to 6 bowlers for $75, or register as an individual for only $15! Price includes 3 games & bowling shoes.
