  • Officials are assessing the damage after Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 5. And, how the government shutdown is impacting air traffic controllers.
  • This year’s Bud Light Fishing Rodeo will take place July 23 – 26, 2021. The weigh in is at Flounders on Pensacola Beach on Saturday from 2p-7p and Sunday from noon-6p. Cash awards and prizes await the angler who weighs in the top three fish in 21 different species. In addition to the rodeo, there is the Step One Automotive King Mackerel Challenge and In-Shore Challenge with separate buy-in and cash and prizes awarded to the boat that brings in the biggest king mackerel and in-shore slam. There is also the Outcast Tackle and Marine Youth Rodeo and the Academy Sports and Outdoors Junior Rodeo. The 2021 InShore Challenge boundaries will include fishing between the west boundary, Highway 59 bridge in Gulf Shores Alabama, to the east boundary, the Mid-Bay Bridge in Destin Florida. All anglers are subject to a polygraph to verify catch in boundary.

  • Celebrate one of Northwest Florida's greatest traditions at Eglin's 36th Gate To Gate Memorial Run/Walk, taking place at 7 a.m. on Saturday, May 27. This 4.4-mile competitive race will start and finish near Unity Park on Eglin Air Force Base, and is open to members of the general public of all ages.

    Following the race, all participants and spectators are welcome to enjoy the after-party at Unity Park, featuring FREE refreshments, entertainment, and an awards presentation for top finishers in a variety of age categories.

    REGISTRATION Dates & Fees are as follows:
    Early Registration: February 1-28 | $35
    Regular Registration: March 1 - April 15 | $45
    Late Registration: April 16 - May 22 | $55

    In-person registration will NOT be available on race day. Cash or check will NOT be accepted for registration at any time. Online registration is highly recommended.

    RACE PACKETS — which include a racer's bib number, FREE event t-shirt*, complimentary beverage voucher, plus other goodies — will be available for pick-up at the following times and locations:

    Wed-Thu, May 24-25 — Air Force Armament Museum | 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

    Photo ID is required for packet pick-up. In-person registration will also be available at the above times and locations, EXCEPT FOR RACE DAY. *T-shirts cannot be guaranteed for participants who register later than May 10.

    On race day, non-DoD participants must enter through the West Gate on Highway 189 near the Air Force Armament Museum. All participants must be in place at the start line by 6:30 a.m. at the corner of Chinquapin Drive and Eglin Boulevard.
  • Celebrate one of Northwest Florida's greatest traditions at Eglin's 35th Annual Gate to Gate Memorial Day Run/Walk! This competitive race is open to members of the general public of all ages.

    Early registration is $35 and will be open through Monday, May 2. Late registration is $45 and will be open through Tuesday, May 24. Registration will be available on the day of the race for $55 from 5 to 6 a.m. for those with base access. Cash will not be accepted for registration at any point.

    Registered participants may pick up their race packets from three different locations on select dates before the race. Packets will be available at the Eglin Main Fitness Center on Monday and Tuesday, May 23 and 24; at the Air Force Armament Museum on Wednesday, May 25; and at the Run With It store (downtown Fort Walton Beach) on Saturday, May 28. Each packet pick-up day will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Packets will also be available on race day from 5 to 6 a.m. at Unity Park. A photo ID is required to pick up race packets.
