  • The Art Gallery at the University of West Florida presents “TESTBED” 2024 Faculty Artist in Residence and Exhibition featuring UWF Department of Art and Design faculty members Marzia Ransom, Jason Pinckard and John Dougherty. Artwork will be displayed at TAG, in the Center for Fine and Performing Arts, Building 82, on the Pensacola campus.

The TAG Artist-in-Residence program uses the gallery as an experimental space to facilitate artistic research that promotes dialogue and collaboration with students, staff and the local community. The exhibition’s studio format gives the Northwest Florida community a unique experience to meet and talk with artists, gaining insights into their creative process. Open studio hours take place from July 9 to August 1, Tuesdays 12 to 2 p.m., Wednesdays 1 to 3 p.m. and Thursdays 2 to 4 p.m. An opening reception will be held in TAG on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Following the open studio hours and reception, visitors can view completed works during the exhibition dates from Aug. 22 to Sept. 26. A closing reception will be held in TAG on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The title of this exhibition takes inspiration from the exploratory nature of the artistic process. A testbed is a platform for discovery, where ideas can be investigated and theories applied. From the exhibition title wall to the artist-in-residence studios and the artwork produced, the TESTBED exhibition is meant to be a learning experience for the students and artists alike.

The word 'Odyssey' implies a significant journey, and that's precisely what audiences are invited on - a sweeping voyage through the heartlands of traditional Irish music, the rhythmic pulse of contemporary Irish music, and the innovative original arrangements that are emblematic of Celtic Thunder's unique sound.

Celtic Thunder’s shared musical chemistry, steeped in their Irish heritage, gives the show its compelling power, while each member adds their distinctive voice and charm to this musical journey, creating a harmonious blend that appeals to a broad spectrum of tastes. The "Odyssey" songbook weaves a rich tapestry of emotional and musical tones. Audiences will be swept up in an energetic rendition of "Go Lassie Go," a traditional folk song that has been given a new lease of life through Celtic Thunder's vibrant harmonies and fresh musical interpretation. The poignant "City of Chicago" serves as a moving tribute to the Irish diaspora, resonating deeply with its heartfelt lyrics and evocative melodies. And "The Parting Glass," an iconic classic from the annals of Irish music, is delivered with such profound emotion that it reverberates through the soul.

The talented Celtic Thunder Band lends their instrumental prowess throughout, providing an authentic and sonically rich backdrop to the vocal performances. Their expert musicianship underscores the music's Irish roots, while their versatility ensures that every song, regardless of genre, is treated with the respect and creativity it deserves.

Memorable musical moments take place on a stage that brilliantly embodies the ethereal mystique of Celtic folklore and the grounded reality of contemporary Irish life. World-class production quality, with a stunning lighting design, paints an atmospheric picture that enhances the emotive resonance of the songs.

Detailed and elegant costumes strike a balance between traditional Celtic attire and modern aesthetics, symbolizing the group's successful fusion of the old and the new. "Odyssey" is not simply a concert; it's a powerful theatrical experience that honors Celtic Thunder's rich musical legacy and simultaneously blazes new trails.

An evocative journey through time, sound, and culture, as educational as it is entertaining. The captivating blend of music, storytelling, and atmospheric stagecraft makes "Odyssey" a must-see spectacle for fans of Celtic Thunder and Irish music in general.

  • LIZZIE: THE MUSICAL is an electrifying, wall-rattling, rock musical. It is a unique retelling of the saga of Lizzie Borden, who in 1892 was tried and acquitted of two murders in Fall River, Massachusetts. Her story, an infamous tale in American Folklore, has been the subject of many films, novels, and even a popular children’s jump rope jingle. The cult status of Lizzie Borden is such that the house where the Borden family lived and where the murders took place, has become one of the most popular “Haunted Bed and Breakfasts” in the country. While the innocence of Lizzie Borden has long been debated and no one was ever convicted of the murders, Lizzie Borden has consistently remained the main suspect.

PenArts, Pensacola's professional theatre company, is thrilled to bring this musical to Pensacola for the first time ever. It will be presented at The Gordon (306 N DeVilliers St). There is a free parking lot adjacent to The Gordon as well as free street parking. The doors to the lobby will open at 7pm.
