Tropical Storm Isaias Updates
The National Hurricane Center has officially upgraded Tropical Depression Nine into Tropical Storm Isaias, and it is likely to become our first hurricane of the season before making landfall, probably along the central Gulf Coast early Saturday morning.

Gulf Island National Seashore closing today
As a result of a National Weather Service advisory, and in accordance with the Severe Weather Emergency Action Plan, the National Park Service will close all areas of Gulf Islands National Seashore beginning today, October 7, in preparation for Tropical Storm Isaias.
The storm is expected to become a hurricane within the next 24 hours. For more information visit our park website and Facebook page.
Florida
- Fort Barrancas Area, Naval Live Oaks Area, Fort Pickens Management Area, Santa Rosa Management Area (Opal Beach), Perdido Key Management Area (Johnson Beach), Okaloosa Area and Crab Island.
Mississippi
- All the barrier islands including Ship Island and Davis Bayou Area.
Highway 399 east and west bound on Santa Rosa Island in Florida will close Friday, time to be determined.
Where to find sand ahead of Tropical Storm Isaias
Escambia County has sandbags at these locations on a first-come-first-served basis 24 hours a day
- Baars Field Athletic Park: 13001 Sorrento Rd.
- Brent Athletic Park: 4711 N. W. St.
- Don Sutton Park: 2320 Crabtree Church Rd. Molino
- Equestrian Center: 7750 Mobile Hwy.
- Escambia County Road Department: 601 Hwy. 297-A
- Ferry Pass Middle School: 8355 Yancey Lane (on the northwest corner of school property on Parazine Street)
- John R. Jones Jr. Athletic Park: 555 E. Nine Mile Rd.
- Travis M. Nelson Park: 4541 County Rd. 4, Century
Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2026, at 4 p.m. CST, sandbags will be available at two locations in Okaloosa County:
- 714 Essex Rd. in Fort Walton Beach and
- 1759 South Ferdon Blvd. in Crestview.

Santa Rosa County Public Works Department has sand available on a first-come, first-served basis at the following locations:
- The corner of Leisure Street and Citrus Drive in Navarre
- Tiger Point Park in Gulf Breeze (1370 Tiger Park Lane)
- Pace Fire-Rescue in Pace (4773 Pace Patriot Boulevard)
- The corner of Pine Forest Road and Carroll Road in Milton
