Navigating Creativity in Times of Change: The Artist’s Perspective

Navigating Creativity in Times of Change: The Artist’s Perspective

The challenges of 2020 have had profound impacts on the demand, delivery and support for the creative projects of professional artists, musicians and performers. COVID-19, the Black Lives Matter movement, and the financial crisis have endeavored those in these fields to adapt and innovate in the face of many uncertainties. This panel will feature local visual and performing artists who are navigating their careers among the present environment's unfolding changes. The artwork featured in the Pensacola Museum of Art's exhibit "A Question of When" will form the backdrop and springboard for discussion. The exhibition is a response to our evolving world amid the COVID-19 pandemic and an ode to the unique role of art in times of change. Featuring works by Marc Chagall, Walker Evans, Joan Miró and other artists from our permanent collection, the selection is a visual representation of the collective grief and ongoing sense of hope many of us feel as we work towards a better future. Hosted by the Pensacola Museum of Art, this installment is being held in partnership with UWF’s College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities’ Experience UWF Downtown Lecture Series; UWF Office of Equity and Diversity; and funded, in part by the John C. Pace Symposium Series. Special thanks to support by the Panhandle Tiger Bay Club. Visit pensacolamuseum.org to learn more about the exhibit and uwf.edu/downtownlectureseries to learn more about the 2020-2021 Experience UWF Downtown Lecture Series.
