Emerald Coast Science Center Presents Second Annual "Reduce, Reuse, Refashion Show"

Emerald Coast Science Center Presents Second Annual "Reduce, Reuse, Refashion Show"

The Emerald Coast Science Center is excited to announce its second annual Reduce, Reuse, Refashion Show, presented by Waste Management, set for Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 4:30 - 6:00 p.m. at the Science Center in Fort Walton Beach.

This unique runway event invites designers to create wearable looks entirely from recycled or repurposed materials: from plastic and paper to fabric scraps and unexpected everyday items. Participating designers will showcase their creations in a live runway show, where designs will be judged on creativity, functionality, and the innovative use of recycled materials. The top three designers will take home prizes.

Following a sold-out debut in 2025, the Reduce, Reuse, Refashion Show returns for its second year with even more creative energy and community excitement. Last year’s event showcased an incredible group of local designers who transformed discarded and repurposed materials into truly impressive, runway-worthy designs. The overwhelming response from the community proved that sustainability and style can make quite the statement when they share the runway.

“We were blown away by the creativity of our designers and the incredible support from the community during our inaugural event,” said Kate Fox, Development Coordinator at the Emerald Coast Science Center. “Seeing people come together to celebrate sustainability, creativity, and innovation was incredibly inspiring. We’re excited to bring this unique event back for another year and see what our local creators dream up this time.”

This family-friendly event celebrates local artists, designers, makers, and community members while encouraging everyone to look at everyday materials in a whole new way. It’s an evening where creativity meets conservation, and where what might otherwise be considered trash gets a chance to become the star of the show.

Building on the success of last year’s event, the Reduce, Reuse, Refashion Show continues to bring the community together at the intersection of creativity and environmental stewardship. Community members and local businesses are invited to be part of the experience—whether as audience members, designers, sponsors, or prize donors. Admission is by a minimum $5 donation per ticket, with all proceeds helping to fund the event, cover logistical costs, and support the design awards. Higher donations are welcome and help enhance the experience and prizes. Businesses interested in sponsoring or donating prizes will receive recognition in tiers based on contribution value. Contact kate@ecscience.org if you are interested in donating a prize or sponsoring this event.

The center is also promoting a Sustainability Weekend concluding with the fashion show event. Community members are encouraged to take MRF Recycling Tours on November 10 and 11 (reserve your spot by emailing hpeters@myokaloosa.com). People can also head to Suds and Cinema to view the film The Cigarette Surfboard on November 13 at 6:30 p.m. A surfer turned 10,000 cigarette butts into a functional surfboard and a powerful platform for ocean conservation in this documentary. Beach cleanup will also take place at 9 a.m. on the 14th with Ocean Hour, and Round-Trip Thrift encourages people to shop at Repeat Street, SOCKS, Shalimar Library, and PAWS to complete a passport for a chance to win prizes Saturday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. On November 15th, there will be a beach cleanup at Beasley Park from 9- 11 a.m. with Keep Okaloosa Beautiful & Litter Locators. Come dressed to impress in your best sustainable cleanup style!
