For Women's History Month, PenArts is presenting GLORY, the true story of four young women who fought the odds to become the women's ice hockey team with the highest percentage of wins. A record that still stands today. Set during the 1930's, the energetic and inspiring play is filled with electro jazz music and a story of determination and passion.   • Mountainfilm on Tour brings a selection of culturally rich, adventure-packed and incredibly inspiring documentary films curated from the Mountainfilm festival in Telluride, Colorado. The tour will visit Pensacola at the Pensacola Little Theatre on May 13 with films that explore themes connected to Mountainfilm’s mission of using the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world.

    Mountainfilm on Tour in Pensacola is hosted by Gulf Coast Film Festival in partnership with a collection of local sponsors that include the Radcliff-Schatzman Group at Morgan Stanley, Taylor Warren Weidner & Hancock, Reboot & Co, Escape Wellness Spa, Conna O’Donovan Realty and Intracoastal Outfitters. This year’s event is the fourth for Mountainfilm on Tour – Pensacola, which hosts an inspiring collection of films to raise awareness and funding for environmental and community causes.

    The show kicks off on May 13 with doors opening at 6 pm and films beginning at 7 pm. Tickets for Mountainfilm on Tour in Pensacola go on sale March 15 and can be purchased online through the tour schedule page of the Mountainfilm website at www.mountainfilm.org Tickets will also be available the day of the event at Pensacola Little Theater at 400 S Jefferson St. The cost for each show is $20 before May 1 and $25 after.   • Thousands of books will be on sale for $1 each. This sale will raise money to support our Prison Book Project which has been mailing free books to Florida prison inmates since 2000.
  • The Escambia County Healthy Start Coalition and Florida Department of Health in Escambia County are partnering with various organizations to host another Community Baby Shower, this time in Pensacola. This is an event designed to serve families in the major Pensacola Metro area and surrounding communities. It will be a free event, inviting parents who are expecting or have recently had a baby, their partners and their families.

    The event will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, inside the Fricker Community Center at 900 N F Street from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

    More than ever, families struggle to find access to community resources and connections to aid their journey through parenthood. This community baby shower will provide much-needed items like baby clothes and supplies, and other useful gear in addition to communication with family support organizations. Caregivers attending this event will learn the basics of keeping themselves and their babies healthy. They will enjoy educational speakers, demonstrations, refreshments, and door prizes. These items are available while supplies last.

    The Coalition is excited to host a larger scale event after the great success of the North Escambia Baby Shower held in Century, FL last May. This year’s event will be packed with local organizations including the Florida Department of Health, Ascension Sacred Heart, Community Health Northwest Florida, Studer Community Institute, Baptist Health Care and much more.   • The University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the Runge Strings Orchestra in concert on Tuesday, April 11 at 7:30 p.m. The concert will be held in UWF Rolfs Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the UWF Pensacola campus.

    The diverse program of Baroque, Romantic and contemporary eras will include a double-violin concerto by J.S. Bach, “String Symphony No. 3” by Felix Mendelssohn and “Libertango” by Astor Piazzolla.

    The soloists in the concert will be Dr. Leonid Yanovskiy and Juan Meza-Jimenez. Yanovskiy is Director of Strings and Orchestra at UWF and Concertmaster of the Pensacola Symphony; Meza-Jimenez is a dual-enrolled student at Yanovskiy’s violin studio at the UWF.

  • LIBERTY Dental Plan of Florida, Camp Seale Harris, and other community partners invite families to the Diabetes WALK on Saturday, March 19. The event helps raise awareness of diabetes and gives the opportunity to fundraise for kids and families living with diabetes the chance to attend Camp Seale Harris. The day will be filled with family fun including a bounce house, games, and community connections. LIBERTY Dental Plan will give out free dental kits and information to help keep young smiles healthy and bright.
  • Join us for a family-friendly Planetarium Special Feature where you'll explore the Arabian myths hidden in the night sky! Space is limited. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended.

    Rub that genie’s lamp, and transport yourself to a magical desert! This planetarium show is all about how the planets and stars are connected to the stories of the famous and beautiful storyteller, Scherazade. Hear retellings of Aladdin, King Solomon, and Sinbad the Sailor as we travel around the solar system. We’ll end the show with a look at the Arabian constellations, and you’ll learn how to befriend the Jinn that may or may not live in your home. Recommended for ages 5+.

    Shows begin at 6 and 7 p.m. All shows last approximately 45 minutes.

    Our Planetarium is an inflatable dome. Guests sit on cushions on the floor of the planetarium to view the show. Space is limited, so purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended for this reason. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled showing. In case of no-shows/late shows: reserved spots will be released at show time to make space for the next party.

    Seating is limited and very popular. We encourage purchasing your tickets in advance, as this is a first come, first served event. Please call 850-664-1261, stop by the Science Center, or use our online ticketing option to purchase your tickets.

    • Join us for a Creature Feature at 1:30 p.m. where you can get up close with some of the center's Animal Ambassadors. Seating for the Creature Feature is available on a first come, first served basis. No reservations accepted.
    • Museum indoor exhibit halls and outdoor exploration spaces are open 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Local bartenders and mixologists will be showcasing the chemistry, biology, and physics behind preparing these exciting cocktails...expand your vodka-bulary by sampling these scientific creations. The evening will also include light refreshments, live music, and chances to win prizes. All proceeds benefit the Emerald Coast Science Center, a 501(c)3 nonprofit.
