  • The purpose of this event is to allow survivors of Sexual Violence (sexual assault, rape, and sexual abuse) to stop and plant personal messages in the Field of Hope as a symbol of reclaiming their power and providing hope to others.

    This event is also an opportunity to show-case the community resources we have by presenting a large visual presence to help victims and their families see our commitment to responding to the needs of victims and survivors.

    Day of event: This event will be available for everyone to attend via DRIVE- up to view, IN Person, and VIRTUAL via Facebook Live.

  • Join-in for some hands-on education about local beaches and waterways with the nonprofit organization Healthy Gulf.

    We’ll be setup outdoors with displays of popular shells and other items that wash ashore on local beaches, as well as some live fish and other marine life from Santa Rosa Sound. Our friends from the Pensacola MESS Hall will be there as well with lessons about sea turtles, fish and more.
  • The Women in Science Conference is a celebration of women in all STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) professions. Hosted by the Emerald Coast Science Center, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, and Twin Cities Hospital, the evening will consist of inspirational presentations from professional women in STEM careers followed by a panel discussion where the audience can engage with speakers and ask questions. Proceeds benefit the Girls Empowered with Math and Science (GEMS) program held by the Emerald Coast Science Center.

    All ages are welcome, especially middle school and high school students looking to discover careers in STEM. Guests will have a chance to mingle with the speakers and other guest professionals. Light refreshments provided.

  • Celebrate National Estuaries Week (September 18th-25th) with us as we explore Indian Bayou! If you've driven over the Garcon Point Bridge then you've driven over Indian Bayou, but you might not have noticed it! ! Come see the estuary (where salt and fresh water meet) from a new, immersive perspective! We promise it is a much more relaxing experience than sitting in traffic to cross the bridge. We will begin the paddle by travelling upstream until we reach the headwaters, where you will feel like you are paddling through the pines. From there, we will return downstream and continue out to Escambia Bay. We will stop at a small sandy beach for lunch. Please pack a lunch and plenty of water. If you have your own kayak you are welcome to bring it and join us. We are providing a limited number of kayaks and necessary gear thanks to the City of Pensacola Parks and Recreation Department. Participants must be at least 12 years old and capable of paddling independently for the duration of the trip. Any children under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Please join us for a virtual tour of the Pensacola East Bay Oyster Habitat Restoration Project presented by The Nature Conservancy, Jacobs and WSP – learn about the project design, discover how the reefs are being monitored and “visit” the first reefs being constructed.
  • Celebrate National Estuaries Week with us as we paddle the Lower Perdido Islands! Join the Pensacola & Perdido Bays Estuary Program as we explore the Lower Perdido Islands! Representatives from The Nature Conservancy and Moffat & Nichol (leading the Lower Perdido Island Management Plan) will be joining us to highlight key features of the plan. We tentatively expect to seine around an island as well. We are meeting at the City of Orange Beach Coastal Resources Office. (across from Pleasure Island Tiki Bar) and will paddle south to the islands. Please carpool if possible. If you have your own kayak you are welcome to bring it and join us. We are providing a limited number of kayaks and necessary gear thanks to the City of Orange Beach Coastal Resources! Participants must be at least 10 years old and capable of paddling independently for the duration of the trip. Any children under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Set sail with us on a sunset cruise that's all about oysters as we celebrate National Estuaries Week! Grab a bite to eat at the Pensacola Seafood Festival and then hop aboard to learn all about oysters! This guided tour will highlight information about local aquaculture farms, oyster harvesting, and restoration efforts as we cruise across the bay to local aquaculture farms. The Pensacola Bay Ferry has a covered rooftop view with seating and a climate controlled cabin. Restrooms are available on board. We will depart from downtown Pensacola at 750 S. Commendencia Street , Pensacola, FL 32502. Please plan to arrive 15minutes prior to departure. We recommend that you leave additional time to find parking and walk over due to the Pensacola Seafood Festival. Minors must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Come dressed in Halloween costumes, get your Trick-or-Treat candy, and prepare to be scared! We're ready to celebrate Halloween under the night sky in our inflatable planetarium. Join our 5 p.m. or 6 p.m. show for family-friendly stories about the creepy creatures of mythology hidden in the night sky. These showings are appropriate for all ages. Our 7 p.m. Spooktacular Show is more appropriate for ages 8 and up as the tales told during this show are spookier. All shows last approximately 45 minutes. Our Planetarium is an inflatable dome. Guests sit on cushions on the floor of the planetarium to view the show. Space is limited. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended for this reason. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled showing. In case of no-shows/late shows: reserved spots will be released at show time to make space for the next party. Seating is limited and very popular. We encourage purchasing your tickets in advance, as this is a first come, first served event.   • On Saturday, October 30 at 8:00 a.m., join us for a 5K fun run/walk at Bayview Park as part of Special Olympics Florida’s Race for Inclusion, to raise funds for Special Olympics Florida athletes. Meet inspirational Special Olympics Florida athletes and celebrate inclusion. Special Olympics Florida’s Race for Inclusion is a nine-month campaign to inspire people across Florida to create communities where everyone is respected and valued, especially those with intellectual disabilities.
  • Celebrate the return of cooler weather with some fresh reading material. The Friends of West Florida Public Library will hold its Big Fall Book Sale on Friday, Sept. 24 through Sunday, Sept. 26 at the Pensacola Public Library, 239 N. Spring St.

    Thousands of hardcover, paperback, and collectible books will be available for purchase, plus a variety of DVDs, CDs, puzzles, and other items. Proceeds are used to fund programs and enhancements at West Florida Public Library (WFPL) branches.

    Friday, Sept. 24 is the Friends’ Advance Sale. From 3pm to 7pm, Friends of WFPL members get exclusive early access to the Book Sale. Non-members can pay $5 admission to take part. Memberships can be purchased at the door.

    On Saturday, Sept. 25, the Book Sale will be open from 9am to 5pm, with free admission for all shoppers and $1 books.

    Sunday, Sept. 26 is the final day of the Book Sale, with free admission and the popular $5 Bag Sale from 9am to 3pm. For just $5, get as many books as you can fit in a brown paper grocery bag. (Bags are provided.) Carts will be available to help carry the bags to your vehicle.

    Book Sale items include thousands of generous donations from the public and some library books retired from circulation, many of them now out-of-print. Novels and mysteries are sorted by author or into genres like Science Fiction and Westerns. Other book categories include arts and entertainment, children’s, cookbooks, history, holidays, home and hobbies, literature, foreign language, military, modern living, nature and gardening, religion, science, sports, technical, and travel. There are also recorded books, magazines, and other media for sale.

    The Collector’s Corner will feature an assortment of signed books, pre-1950s books, books by local and Florida authors, and other special books that are great for gifts. These items are priced as marked and must be checked out separately, so shoppers paying by check should bring two of them.

    Cash, checks, and credit cards are all welcome. Masks are recommended inside the library building.
