  • The University of West Florida Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the Kamerman Piano Series at UWF featuring guest performer Matthew Graybil. The performance will be held on Sunday, Oct. 26, at 3 p.m. in the Rolfs Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on the UWF Pensacola campus.

    Renowned as an “exceptional young artist” by the New Yorker and as a “major talent” by the Sarasota Herald-Tribune since making his orchestral debut at age 14, Matthew Graybil has gained an international reputation as a talented piano recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe. Graybil’s solo career features performances in major music capitals of the world including Mexico City, New York, Paris and Toronto, in venues such as Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall, Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center, the Lincoln Center and more. Having studied music since age 6, earning his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Juilliard School, Graybil’s career highlights works from the 20th and 21st centuries, reflected in his first solo album in which he “becomes so at one with the music that the line between performer and composer vanishes” marking him as “one of the most sensitive, poetic young pianists to debut on record in recent memory,” according to Fanfare Magazine.
  • Mountainfilm on Tour brings a selection of culturally rich, adventure-packed and incredibly inspiring documentary films curated from the Mountainfilm festival in Telluride, Colorado. The tour will visit Pensacola at the Pensacola Little Theatre on Saturday January 17 with films that explore themes connected to Mountainfilm’s mission of using the power of film, art and ideas to inspire audiences to create a better world.

    Mountainfilm on Tour in Pensacola is hosted by Gulf Coast Film Festival in partnership with a collection of local sponsors that include the Edward Jones Cosentino Wealth Management Team and Reboot and Co. This year’s event is the sixth for Mountainfilm on Tour – Pensacola, which hosts an inspiring collection of films to raise awareness and funding for environmental and community causes, including the nonprofit organizations Pensacola and Perdido Bays Estuary Program and Healthy Gulf.

    The show kicks off on January 17 with doors opening at 5:00 pm, and films beginning at 6:00 pm. Tickets for Mountainfilm on Tour in Pensacola can be purchased online at: https://mountainfilm.myeventscenter.com/
    Tickets will also be available at the event at Pensacola Little Theater at 400 S Jefferson St. The cost for each ticket is $25.

  • The Luminari Boys Choir from Woodlands, TX, will be performing in Pensacola at First Presbyterian Church, 33 E. Gregory, 6:00 p.m., as part of their Gulf Coast Tour 2022. Founded in 2015 by Sherry Pond, former student of Pensacola Children's Chorus founders Susan and Allen Pote, the LBC provides a safe haven for boys to gather to sing, play and develop skills and abilities that will help mold them into well-rounded and productive individuals
    who appreciate music and the arts, faith, humanity, and life.

    UWF Professor Valerie George's students used worn, discarded books to create a variety of pieces, which will be held inside the Pace Library Great Good Place, which is located on the 2nd floor. Light refreshments will be served.
  • OVERTURE is Pensacola Opera’s immersive summer experience for students ages 6-12. Taking place July 19-23, this week-long day camp will teach children about the magic and excitement of live theatre by placing them right at the center of the action. From creating original sets and props to starring in all roles, campers will work together to present a fully staged and rehearsed 40-minute production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Pensacola Opera’s experienced music staff—alongside special guest teachers—will lead children through this hands-on, unforgettable week.
  • Adult Education graduation is set for 6 p.m. Dec. 9 in the Delaino Student Center, Building 5, on the Pensacola campus. Richard Carr, a PSC Humanities and Social Science instructor, will be the guest speaker.

    A Pensacola native, Carr earned his GED and is a PSC graduate. He received his graduate training in psychology at the University of West Florida and sociology training at the University of Alabama-Birmingham.

    The PSC commencement ceremony is scheduled for 3 p.m. Dec. 12 in the Pensacola Bay Center. Julian MacQueen, a Pensacola State College District Board of Trustees member, will be the guest speaker.

    Pat Horacek, PSC mathematics professor, will be the Grand Marshal. Michael Payne, assistant professor of business, and Kenneth Phillips, the Performing Arts department head, will serve as Faculty Marshals. PSC Registrar Stephanie Denmark and Karen McCabe, director of the Santa Rosa Center, will be the Student Marshals. Students are limited to eight guests each. Attendees are encouraged to wear face masks and follow social distancing protocol at the nursing pinnings and graduation ceremonies. MacQueen is the founder and chairman of Innisfree Hotels, the Gulf Breeze-based hotel development and management company that owns and operates a collection of hotels in the Southeast.

    Since founding Innisfree Hotels in 1985, the company is currently ranked as the 42nd largest hotel company in the United States and the seventh largest employer in the Pensacola metropolitan statistical area.

    Born in Birmingham, Alabama, MacQueen graduated from the University of South Alabama with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. MacQueen and his wife, Kim, are members of the Bahá’í Faith, founding life-changing programs, such as University of South Alabama MacQueen Alumni Center, MacQueen School of Hospitality at the University of West Florida, Parent University of Pensacola, Equality Project Alliance for Anti-Racism, Escambia Children’s Trust, and more.
