The University of West Florida and the Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the Runge Strings Orchestra in concert on Thursday, February 16 at 6:30 p.m. The performance will be held at St. Paul Catholic Church located at 3131 Hyde Park Rd., Pensacola.

UWF Orchestra Runge Strings Orchestra will present its post-Valentine-Day concert at St. Paul Catholic Church in Pensacola. The program will include Baroque music by Handel. Sibelius and Grieg. Among the soloists in the concert, will be the music directors of the ensemble Leonid Yanovskiy and Aleksandra Pereverzeva, as well as the young violinist Juan Meza-Jimenez.

Leonid Yanovskiy is Director of Strings at the University of West Florida and Concertmaster of the Pensacola Symphony; Pereverzeva is Principal Cello of the Pensacola and Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestras; and Meza-Jimenez is a junior student in high school and a dual-enrolled student with Leonid Yanovskiy’s violin studio at University of West Florida.

UWF will host the first annual Holocaust Remembrance Event on Jan. 26, 2023, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the UWF CFPA, Building 82, Rolfs Music Hall.

The event's purpose is to remind students and the community about the harm associated with hate and how we have to combat antisemitism and all other hate in a proactive and vocal manner.

The event will feature various speakers from across campus, reading of names from family members who perished in the Holocaust, lighting memorial candles, a somber musical interlude and sharing a Righteous Among the Nations bio.

Dr. Leon Chameides will be the evening's presenter (via Zoom) and invite the audience into question and answer. Chameides was born on June 24, 1935, in Katowice, Poland. With the German invasion of Poland, Leon's family fled eastward and settled near Soviet-occupied Lwów, Poland (present-day L'viv, Ukraine).

The event is co-sponsored by the UWF College of Education and Professional Studies; UWF College of Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities; the UWF Office of Diversity and Inclusion; Pensacola Jewish Federation; Temple Beth El of Pensacola; Bnai Israel Synagogue; and Chabad of Pensacola. Light refreshments will be served after the event.

We're hosting our first ever Homeschool Science Fair! Both competitive and non-competitive divisions are available for participation. Students ages 6 and up are invited to participate in the fair; students must be able to present their experiments on their own for our judges. This is an excellent opportunity for all homeschool students looking to explore the various STEM disciplines. Light refreshments provided. The PMA and Experience UWF Downtown Lecture Series presents Flapper Fiction and Flapper Authors of the 1920s - Author Talk with David M. Earle.

Join UWF’s Professor David Earle as he discusses flapper authors of the 1920s and "Where All Good Flappers Go," his recent collection of flapper stories principally sourced from jazz-age magazines.

The book — the first-ever collection dedicated to flapper stories — includes favorite authors such as F. Scott and Zelda Fitzgerald but also recovers lost female authors published in the pulp magazines of the 1920s.

David will be sharing stories from and about the book and signing copies. The book will be available for purchase.

WUWF invites you to the annual Tidings of Comfort & Joy concert on Monday, December 23, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in downtown Pensacola – with performances at 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm.

Cost: $15 (tax included, non-refundable)

You will receive an email confirmation upon ticket purchase. Check in at the door under your name. Doors open 30 minutes before performance time.

The concert is a favorite local tradition for many. The beautiful historic venue, on Seville Square in downtown Pensacola, sets the mood for a concert of seasonal music both religious and secular, traditional and contemporary, expertly mixed and chosen by WUWF’s Dale Riegle. After the hubbub of the season, Tidings makes for a perfect quiet evening with family and friends.

2024 Concert performers include: Sewell Griffith, soprano; Stephanie Riegle, flute; Katie Ott, Harp; Christina Buran, Piano; Brian Brown, Viola; The Perdido Brass – Dale Riegle and Jonathan Martin, Trumpet; Stuart Kinney, Horn; Bret Barrow and Don Snowden, Trombone.

Bring your family and enjoy an afternoon outdoors with fellow Argos at the UWF Sports Complex! We will have yard games, tie-dye shirt creation stations, shaved ice treats, vendor booths and baseball and softball games. Shirts and treats are free while supplies last. From Noon – 3 p.m activities, games and booths behind UWF Softball Field. Then enjoy from 1 – 6 p.m. UWF Softball and Baseball games vs. West Alabama. Baseball will be playing on the Jim Spooner Field. Softball will be playing on the UWF Softball Complex. Free admission to all games
