  • Keep Santa Rosa Beautiful's Panhandle Butterfly House is hosting the annual Monarch Madness festival on Saturday October 26 from 9 am to 1 pm.

    Fun and adventure await! The world of the Monarch butterfly comes alive with butterfly releases and tours of the vivarium immersing visitors in a botanical garden among live butterflies.

    Take a ride on the Monarch Madness Express and play the Game of Butterfly Life.

    Visit the Mad Lab of Dr. Lepidopterist and take a hike on the Tiger Nature Trail.

    Educational activities and crafting for all.

    There will be a chili cook-off and bake sale.

    All proceeds benefit Horse Healing, Inc., which seeks to serve mentally, physically and emotionally handicapped individuals through equine-assisted therapy, i.e., “using horses to help humans heal”.

    BOOK TALK (5:00 pm-7:30 pm)
    Kick-off “Celebrating Our Ancestors” on Friday, October 25, 2024, with a book talk featuring Joe McGill and Herb Frazier, co-authors of Sleeping with the Ancestors: How I Followed the Footprints of Slavery. Pre-registration is encouraged.

    FIRESIDE CONVERSATION AND SLEEPOVER (8:00 pm)
    Following the book talk, Mr. McGill, founder of the Slave Dwelling Project, will lead a fireside conversation and sleepover in the UWF Historic Trust’s Historic Pensacola Village. This overnight stay is the signature program of the Slave Dwelling Project. Pre-registration is required.

    CELEBRATION EVENT (10:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
    On Saturday, October 26, 2024, continue celebrating with a large public event highlighting the contributions of enslaved Ancestors and their descendants. All Trust museum spaces will be free and open to the public. Enjoy the following activities:
    • COMMUNITY STAGE: Enjoy performances and storytelling by local artists including Our Voices are Many and Polimbatree.
    • MINI-WORKSHOP LEARNING LABORATORY: Learn about African American Genealogy,
    • Cemetery Preservation, African American Archaeology, and African American Archival Research from local experts in short (30 minute) workshops.
    • POP-UP MUSEUM: Participate in hands-on, family-friendly activities and learn about local organizations
    • MARKETPLACE: Browse and purchase products from local businesses, artists, and artisans
    • COOKING PROGRAM: Watch living historian and culinary expert Jerome Bias recreate meals prepared by enslaved cooks.
  • The beautiful sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Pensacola provides the stunning setting for the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra's annual celebration of Mozart! This chamber orchestra concert features Hedi Salanki-Rubardt and Blake Riley as soloists for the composer’s Concerto for Two Pianos. The program also includes his Symphony No. 39, one of Mozart’s final masterworks. With $20 general admission tickets, it is a wonderful experience, whether you have been attending Symphony events for years or are new to our concerts.
  • The Pensacola Symphony Orchestra’s season concludes with a thrilling finale, featuring Antonín Dvořák’s lyrical and fiery Sixth Symphony and Hector Berlioz’s Le Corsaire Overture, inspired by the thieving pirates of Lord Byron’s poetry. Soloist Maxim Lando joins the orchestra for a breakneck cascade of notes in Camille Saint-Saëns’ Second Piano Concerto.
