The League of Women Voters of the Pensacola Bay Area and Co-Sponsors will hold a free Community Candidate Forum for the Escambia & Santa Rosa School Board candidates to provide an unbiased look at the people running for office and an opportunity to hear each candidate’s responses to questions on current issues for voters.

The Co-Sponsors are H.O.O.P.S., EEA, EREA, Florida Freedom to Read, Movement for Change and PYP.

The event is are the Pensacola Downtown Library, July 17, 2024 4:15 P.M. - 6:30 P.M.

This event is not sponsored or endorsed by the WFPL or Escambia County.

A gathering of former and present caregivers of family loved ones working through the various stages of the different dementias. The purpose is to share possible solutions, techniques, and exterior sources of assistance with each other from our personal experiences.

Open Books and the N.B. Cook Elementary PTA are teaming up for a Children's Book Fair. There will be hundreds of books for all ages, including toddler and young adult, for only $1 each.

Volunteers are the backbone of what we do and play an important role in helping us build homes, communities, and hope here in Escambia and Santa Rosa Counties.

Come help our construction crew with framing a Pensacola Habitat home for a family in our Home Buyer program!

No construction experience is necessary! You will be helping with framing - the process of connecting building materials together to create the home's structure.

Volunteers must be 16 years old or older to volunteer for framing.

Please arrive by 7:45 a.m. Our crew leaders will give a safety talk at 8:00 a.m. When you arrive, you will check in with our crew leaders or a member of Volunteer Services. Be sure to bring a folding chair and water bottle (packaged water bottles are also available on site). Lunch typically occurs around 11:00 a.m. and is not provided.

What to Wear: Comfortable clothes that you won’t mind getting sweaty and dirty! Shorts are allowed. Closed-toe shoes (work boots are preferred, but thick-soled sneakers are allowed).

Feel free to bring your own hammer and gloves, but our crew will have everything you need. We also recommend that you wear sunscreen and bug spray. There will be a break for lunch around 11:00 a.m. Lunch will not be provided, however we will have water available. The day will end around 2:00 p.m.

We are so thankful for your support in changing lives for generations to come!

This event will include tours of the museum, historic presentations, model train displays, and the riding kids train and garden.

Food vendors plus “Snowbiz Shaved Ice” will be on site serving up delicious treats.

Join us for a late afternoon summer stroll through downtown Pensacola as we explore the old and new ways that cities can adapt to the higher temperatures and heavier rainfall of our changing climate. Along the way we’ll look at the many features of buildings, streets, and parks that can help keep cities and their inhabitants cooler and more comfortable while using less energy.

Your tour guide is Christian Wagley of the nonprofit group Healthy Gulf. Christian spends much of his time studying the traditional ways that communities were designed and built in harmony with local climate. We’ll walk where it’s hot and where it’s not, compare temperatures in different areas of the city, and see firsthand how the design of cities shapes our energy use and comfort. Participants are encouraged to dress for the heat, with light colored clothing, natural fibers like linen, hats and parasols.

Forecasts from the National Climate Assessment predict hotter summers, more rainfall and stronger hurricanes in the southern U.S. Pensacola and other cities will need to adapt to the changing conditions in order to protect their economies, public health, and quality-of-life.

The Tour begins at Martin Luther King Plaza located in the center of Palafox St—one and a half blocks north of Garden St. The Walking Tour concludes at 5:30 pm.

Join us for this extra special planetarium event that celebrates the brilliant and brave women who wrote their names in the stars by pushing back against discrimination and gender roles. We’ll travel around the solar system to celebrate some of the earliest female astronomers, NASA scientists, and astronauts. You’ll also learn about the brother/sister duo who discovered Uranus, the two planets that are named after goddesses (and three dwarf planets), the only constellation named after a historical figure, and the best mom ever who won a trip to space and decided to take her 18-year-old daughter. Buckle your seat belts, because these amazing women will blow you away.

Our Planetarium is an inflatable dome. Guests sit on cushions on the floor of the planetarium to view the show. Due to size, space is limited to 25 patrons at a time. Purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended for this reason. On Planetarium Nights, please arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled showing. In case of no-shows/late shows: reserved spots will be released at show time to make space for the next party.

Shows begin at 6 and 7 pm and last approximately 45 minutes.

Come dressed in Halloween costumes and prepare to be scared! We’ll teach you about our favorite scary space facts in a terrifying tour of the solar system. Learn which planet is home to the Labyrinth of Night, why Pluto is named after the underworld, and which monster from Greek mythology was the scariest – do you think it’s Medusa, the Minotaur, the Hydra, or the Chimera? Recommended for ages 5+.

We will host special spooky activities in our front classroom 30 minutes before show time! Come before your show to participate. Due to the nature of our planetarium, the rest of the museum's exhibits will not be functional during this event so outside light and sound do not interfere inside the dome.
