Runge Strings Orchestra Concert Offers Mix Of Traditional And Modern Fare

Michael Spooneybarger/ CREO

Though classical music has existed for hundreds of years, it remains fresh through interpretation and combinations of different pieces, and director Leonid Yanovskiy says the coming Runge Strings Orchestra Concert will be a good example of this.

They will play selections from Haydn’s “String Quartet in B Minor,” Corelli’s “Concerto Grosso in D Major” and Britten’s “Simple Symphony for String Orchestra.”

The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Music Hall inside the Center for the Fine and Performing Arts on the University of West Florida’s main campus.

The Runge Strings Orchestra was created in 2001. The orchestra bears the name of the passionate and generous string music supporter, the late Mr. Paul Runge.

The ensemble has accompanied student soloists, UWF faculty members and distinguished guest soloists as well as performed with various choral and instrumental ensembles at UWF, Pensacola State College and chamber ensembles in New York. The Orchestra consists of graduate and undergraduate music majors and minors. Some members are dual-enrolled in high school and UWF.

Members of the Runge String Quartet are Ramel Price and Samuel Klauss, violins; Leanne Klauss, viola; and Noah Klauss, cello.

Other members of the Runge String Orchestra are Hannah Roland, Jordan Cope, Megan Brown, Ashely Crowley, Paula Kay, John Webb, Katharina Meyer, Ameila Velasco, Samantha Negron, Margaret Duke, Brandon Eacret, Kat Baltikenov, Kristin Kindelspire, Marcus Baker and Brianna Webb.
