Gov. Ron DeSantis announced a new program linking state colleges and universities with emergency management professionals.
The Coalition for Operational Readiness in Education, ‘CORE,’ is intended to use the Florida Division of Emergency Management, the Department of Commerce, and the Department of Education to connect students with disaster management firms.
“Our goal is to reach every college, university, technical school and trade school in Florida and create a model for emergency management workforce development that can be replicated across the country,” DeSantis said.
The program was announced at Florida International University on Wednesday.
DeSantis said the program will soon be picked up by Florida Atlantic University, Florida State University, University of Florida, the University of Central Florida, the University of South Florida, the University of Tampa, Polk State College, Palm Beach State College, Tallahassee State College and State College of Florida.
