  • Gulf Coast Love Story brings to the screen the hopes and struggles of Gulf coast communities on the front lines of fossil fuels and climate change. The film listens to a poet, chef, musician, dancer, photographer and painters along the beaches and the bayous of the Gulf Coast. These are the stories of people and communities that are remembering, healing, visioning and building a movement for a healthy future amidst oil rigs and petrochemical plants.

Filmmaker Dayna Reggero of the Climate Listening Project presents the film and discusses what it means to listen to the people of the Gulf coast and to help share their stories. Refreshments will be served.

    More about Dayna:

Dayna Reggero is an award-winning documentary film director and healing listener who lives in NW Florida. She is a graduate of the University of West Florida and began appearing with animals on WEAR -TV at only 19 years old. Dayna has worked in Florida educating local communities about wildlife, preserving forests, supporting clean energy, and listening to people impacted by climate change for 20 years, while traveling around the world connecting hopeful stories on climate and community.

Salon.com wrote of Dayna: “By trade, Dayna Reggero is an environmentalist. Her work ranges from filmmaking to beginning her career as a spokesperson. However, her most skilled work might come in the form of organizing conversations, or simply starting them.” In a print feature, Woman’s Day Magazine showcased Dayna as an “Earth Mother: an Artist Activist who isn’t just fighting for cleaner air and water, but protecting a community’s most precious resources – its people.”

When her first short film won Best Documentary, the judges noted: "It is especially the enthusiasm, love and respect Reggero shows for her subjects, the feathered and the humankind, that makes us look forward to her next projects.” In 2021, Dayna was honored with a Special Hero Award as part of the Dan Eldon Documentary Activist Award and in 2022 as Winner of the Maya Deren Short Film Innovation Prize for "her insightful, essential documentaries but also her human spirit to make the world more aware of itself through her various projects."
