As flooding drenches parts of southern Louisiana, the city of New Orleans is sending help.
The city’s Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness is working with state and parish officials scrambling to save people and property from the floods. Eighteen firefighters and nine boats have helped out with search and rescue missions.
Cots were sent to Ascension Parish as it set up a shelter. Command staff has helped out with rescue and medical missions. Health department employees are on stand-by.
The mayor’s office has activated the Pay it Forward Fund to accept donations.
About 100 people took shelter at theDiosElMilagrochurch inTreme. Officials say that when larger shelters opened up in Baton Rouge they went back to be closer to home and reunite with their families.
