The director of the University of West Florida’s Center for Cybersecurity has been named by Governor DeSantis to a state task force on cybersecurity.  “I’m truly honored to be nominated to serve on the cybersecurity task force for the state of Florida. It’s great for higher education as well as for our region and the University of West Florida” said Dr. Eman El-Sheikh, a professor of computer science at UWF and the cybersecurity center director.

Florida’s new governor is taking a victory lap around the state, holding a series of rallies that he's calling his "Thank You Tour."

Pensacola is not among the planned stops.

DeSantis won a narrow victory over Democrat Andrew Gillum, 50-49 percent after recounts. He takes office January 8.

“Other than serving our nation in uniform, the opportunity to serve as the 46th governor of the great state of Florida is the greatest professional honor of my life,” DeSantis told supporters on Election Night.

The tickets are set for the 2018 Florida Governor’s race, as both nominees made their selections ahead of the mandated deadline on Thursday.

Orlando businessman Chris King is joining nominee and former primary rival Andrew Gillum on the Democratic ticket. Gillum — the Mayor of Tallahassee — released a video welcoming King aboard.

“What the race is about is where we want to go as a state; not where we’ve been, but where we want to go,” said Gillum in the video. “We believe, collectively, that common sense; that optimism, that inspiration – all of that will win out.”
