UWF President Elect Saunders Talks About The Future

University of West Florida

Martha Saunders has had a few weeks to settle in to her new position as President-Elect at the University of West Florida. She is currently serving as Provost and Executive Vice President at the school. She sat down with WUWF’s Bob Barrett.

  • Saunders says she will continue to be "hands-on" in her new post. the duties will be different but she says "you all will be seeing a lot of me."
  • Her contract has not yet been finalized, but she says she is not worried at all about the negotiations. Since she is already in place, many items in the budget such as moving expenses need to be changed.
  • The university will be naming or hiring a new provost, however she will not have an executive vice president. She says the VPs at UWF will continue to report to her. "The team's in place, and I'll still be directing the same people.
  • One of her main concerns will be continuing to install systems that will make the university sustainable. Keeping UWF moving up in the funding metrics and keeping it there is a top priority.
Bob Barrett has been a radio broadcaster since the mid 1970s and has worked at stations from northern New York to south Florida and, oddly, has been able to make a living that way. He began work in public radio in 2001. Over the years he has produced nationally syndicated programs such as The Environment Show and The Health Show for Northeast Public Radio's National Productions.
