The University of West Florida’s Dr. Grier Williams School of Music will present the UWF Singers. Enjoy the performance that was featured at the regional American Choral Directors Association conference in Orlando, Florida. The performance will be held on Tuesday, November 22 at 7:30 p.m. in the Rolfs Music Hall at the Center for Fine and Performing Arts on UWF’s Pensacola campus.
The UWF Singers were invited to perform at the Florida ACDA conference on October 22 in Orlando, FL. The invitation goes out to only one College or University in the state based on a blind audition process. This was the UWF Singers first time submitting an audition and they were chosen to perform. Truly a wonderful honor and a great opportunity to show Choral Directors of all levels across the state the wonderful work that our UWF Singers present.
The program will feature a performance of “Nada te Turbe” by American composer, Joan Szymko, written for cello and choir, with text by Saint Teresa of Ávila. "Nada te Turbe" invokes the comforting words of the 16th century Spanish mystic Saint Teresa de Ávila, which remain surprisingly cogent for 21st century listeners.
This concert will also feature the work “Serenity”, by Norwegian-American composer Ola Gjeilo. This piece is a setting of “O Magnum Mysterium” text with a beautiful 14-part voicing.
Additionally, the Concert Choir and newly formed Argo Chorus will perform. The program will include works by Fauré, Mozart, Walker, Bernstein, Forrest and LaBarr, with texts by Langston Hughes, Stephen Sondheim and Charles Anthony Silvestri. This performance will include Hyunjoo Kim on piano, Daniel Perkins on harmonium and Aleksandra Pereverzeva on cello.
This event is free and open to the public but tickets are required. For tickets or more information, visit uwf.edu/cfpa or call the CFPA box office at 850.857.6285.
