Come join the Western Gate Chapter (Florida Trail Association) for its 3-day Panhandle Trace hiking/camping event to explore the northern part of the Florida National Scenic Trail. This event is open to everyone and you may RSVP on the Meetup site listed. Meet at Guest Lake Park, near Holt, FL to sign everyone in and then shuttle to the hike's starting point on Deer Lake Road. This 8-mile Yellow River Ravines hike will be on a trail section that replaces a former road walk and has recently been added to the FNST. It traverses some wetland segments, so you might get your feet a bit wet, but this wilderness trail is definitely worth it as it meanders through pine woods, a ti-ti marsh, and over numerous streams. Unique aquatic plants, Florida anise and dogwood should be "show-stoppers" at this time of year. You will complete the hike back at the Guest Lake pavilion and your car.
